Delano Tourists File Lawsuit Against Property over Unlawful Detention
Two guests at the iconic Strip venue have argued in a recent lawsuit filed against the property that they had been unlawfully detained Las Vegasis known for its hospitality, but two tourists at the Delano would argue otherwise. A claim in a lawsuit filed on August 14in Clark County District Courtalleges that the two tourists were held in a cell at the property for four hours. They were detained because of an altercation with another person, and the lawsuit now stipulates that they were subject to false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent hiring, training, retention, and overall negligence. The Delano rebranded to the W Las Vegas last Decemberand is operated by MGM Resorts International. Andriana Thomopolous and Rania Kassab argue in their case that they were detained on November 10, 2024, after a rather comical incident. Thomopolous inadvertently pushed into another pedestrian in the common area of the resort. The other walker immediately became “verbally aggressive,” and threw a drink at Kassab and Thomopoulos. The lawsuit then claims that the tourists tried to alert security but were instead ngaken away themselves. They were not told why this was happeningor was necessary in the first place, and were separated from their spouses. When detained, they were pat-down and also “verbally reprimanded” by staff for asking questions for updates. They were detained for a total of four hours. Upon release, they were told, however, that they had indeed not done anything wrong, with security confirming that Thomopolous and Kassab had not caused the altercation. However, the lawsuit also alleges that if the pair were involved in any type of incident, they would be issued a trespass, and their presence at the property would be prohibited. The lawsuit seeks a fairly small recompense for the incident, including general damages in excess of$15,000, specialdamages in excess of $15,000, attorneys’ fees, costs of suit, exemplary damages, and further relief.
